The Little Flowers of Saint Francis of Assisi
Paperback | 284 pages | Printed by Templegate Publishers
This handsome gift edition with 55 woodcuts by Paolo Molnar is a facsimile edition of one published by the Limited Editions Club and printed by Hans Mardersteig in the Officina Bodoni at Verona, Italy. The text is the first English translation revised and edited by Dom Roger Hudleston. These tales are fixed upon St. Francis and his earliest disciples in the way in which legend accumulates around any celebrated character in history. But in this case, and in contrast with the situation that usually prevails in folklore, these stories have a certain authority as history. St. Francis died in 1226 and these tales began to circulate only some forty or fifty years later. To read this book is to relive the life of the earliest Franciscans and to walk and talk with the friends and disciples of the saint. “The classical collection of tales about St. Francis...a beautiful gift.” (The Living Church)
