Our Lady of Knock Medal (Small)
INSPIRATION: Designed by the monks of Our Lady of the Cenacle Monastery in Co. Meath, Ireland in gratitude to for the maternal care of Our Lady, this medal seeks to further devotion to Her in the manner that she appeared at Knock. The medal was designed to authentically replicate the apparition as it is commemorated today at the Shrine itself, giving to each person who possess it a vivid reminder of what occurred on the 21st of August, 1879.
DESIGN: Handcrafted by Italian artisans who have perfected their trade over nearly a century, this medal is made of galvanized aluminum and is 18mm in diameter. On the one side are depicted the Lamb, altar and cross, all of which surrounded by a myriad of adoring angels. The Latin text of the Mass ‘Angus Dei qui tollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis’ (Lamb of God, Who takes away the sins of the world, have mercy on us) is inscribed around the edge along with the Cenacle Press logo of the chalice and cross at the bottom. On the reverse side is an image of the apparition itself surrounded by an inscription of the invocation ‘Our Lady of Knock, pray for us who have recourse to thee’ and a motif of the golden rose below.
