These rosaries are handmade by the monks of Silverstream Priory with Titanium Pyrite ('fools gold') 'Our Father' beads and Jujube wood decade beads and a sturdy St Benedict Crucifix.
This rosary takes its name from a verse of the Latin text of the canticle sung at Lauds on Sundays and Feasts, the Benedicite. The 'Canticle of the Three Young Men In the Fiery Furnace', as it is also known, is taken from the 3rd chapter of the book of Daniel, and is a hymn which calls on all creation to praise God, including all 'light and darkness': lux et tenebrae.
According to some traditions, Our Lord’s crown of thorns was made from one of the varieties of Jujube tree which is native to Palestine. The beads that our rosaries are made with are a deep, warm brown in colour and vary slightly in hue, some touched with a slightly lighter reddish brown. Their finish is glossy.
